ARTAS Hair Transplant Robot

The ARTAS system is a robotic platform for follicular unit extraction, the hair transplant technique in which individual groups of hairs are harvested one by one from the back and sides of the scalp and moved to the thinning area. A camera system examines the scalp many times a second, identifies each follicular unit, measures the angle and direction in which it grows, and a robotic arm then punches around it at that exact angle. The same platform can design the recipient area on a three-dimensional model of the patient's head and create the recipient sites. The surgeon selects the plan, supervises every step and places the grafts; the robot performs the repetitive harvesting with consistent depth and angle.
