Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields)

Tumor Treating Fields, usually shortened to TTFields, is a cancer treatment that uses low-intensity, alternating electric fields delivered through adhesive patches worn on the skin. The fields are tuned to a frequency that interferes with cell division, disrupting the internal machinery that pulls chromosomes apart, so cells that are actively dividing struggle to complete the process. Because tumour cells divide far more often than most healthy tissue, the effect concentrates on the tumour. Treatment is worn rather than given in sessions: the patient carries a small portable device and wears the patches for as many hours a day as possible, continuing ordinary daily life, and it is used together with drug treatment rather than instead of it.
